A B O U T   T H E   A R T I S T

I was born in the Netherlands where I grew up in the country side. We lived in a renovated farmhouse with my parents and three sisters, cats, dogs, horses, rabits, guinea pigs, ducks, fish etc..

Every summer holiday was spend on the Dutch lakes  where the four girls were the crew members on my dad's sailing boat. Those times instilled fond memories and ever since I was a child I have been attracted to water and big open spaces. Thats often the theme reflected in my paintings.

I studied to become a physical therapist and worked several years in a rehabilitation centre for people with a handicap. Eventhough I did my studies and loved my work, I also had a constant urge to explore and  experience more of the world beyond  just the Netherlands.
So far art had not entered my world but some art themes had.

In 1991 I left The Netherlands for Mozambique to work with a Norwegian aid organisation  in the nothern part of the country. All in all about  eleven years were spend in Mozambique and several years traveling through other African countries.
Now many years later, I am still in Africa.

Throughout my life I made sketches of people, boats , the lakes and the sea.  Several years ago I started focussing on my art and now  I am a full time artist with a studio in Cape Town, South Africa.

I paint what I find beautiful and which touch me emotionally.  I am drawn to water. It comes naturally and easy. Water moves, never stands still. Like life it changes constantly, it changes mood and colour.

My paintings and sketches reflect my own you journey through life.  Sometimes colour full, other times grey, sometimes detailed and clear, othertimes less clear,a sketch. Some days light and happy other times dark or melancholy.

The market for my work is varied - from individuals to the corporate world and goverment institutions.

Enjoy my gallery and feel free to get in touch with me if you like more information about a painting.
I am also available to do specific commissions if requered.
